Competitive Swim

Competitive Swim

This competitive program is a natural advancement for progressive swim participants who are currently enrolled in the YMCA swimming lesson program.  Our team is composed of boys and girls from 5 to 17 years old.  For practices, swimmers will be grouped according to age/ability.  As a member of the team, each swimmer will enjoy the benefit of expert coaching within a supportive and friendly environment.  We emphasize teamwork, personal growth, competitive strokes skill development, and self confidence.  The goal of this program is to assist each individual in developing the skills, physical fitness and positive attitude needed to attain full potential as a swimmer.

Prerequisite:  All potential swimmers must ably demonstrate front crawl and back crawl, and be familiar with breast stroke and butterfly stroke.

Expectations: Swimmers must commit to two practices per week, no less than two swim meets per month and be ready for a fast-paced competitive environment.  Participants may not miss more that two swim meets per season and must stay for the duration the meet (swim meets may last from three to five hours).  For swimmers 8-years old & uder, races are 25 yeards (a length of the pool).

Parent Volynteers are a vital part of the Water Dragons Swim Team.  Parents will be expected to volunteer for the least one meet as a ribbon writer, timer, runner, or scorer, or to be on the commmittee for the end of season team dinner.
